The RTC Helps Develop the Peace Trail | A History in Words & Pictures

Our vision for the Peace Trail is a regional bicycling and recreation connection focused on Rock County’s natural and cultural heritage connecting the Glacial River Trail through Rock County to the northern Illinois trail system.

Peace Trail Timeline

  • 2014 Rock Trail Coalition, Rock County Leadership Development Academy and others constructed a bridge over Goose Creek creating a north side entrance to Big Hill Park and cleared the trail from Walters Road into the park.
  • 2015 Rock Trail Coalition cleared and roughed-in Peace Trail
  • 2016 Rock County paved Peace Trail with crushed limestone.
  • 2017 Rock Trail Coalition cleared and roughed-in Peace Trail from Bass Creek Road to Townline Road
  • 2017 City of Beloit constructed asphalt Peace Trail through the park.
  • 2018 Rock County paved Peace Trail with crushed limestone Bass Creek Road to Walters Road.
  • 2018 Beloit Parks added asphalt connection from the asphalt Peace Trail within the park to the north entrance trail.
  • The Peace Trail was completed from Janesville to Big Hill Park in 2018.
